A well-established Isle of Man organisation is looking to strengthen its technical team in Douglas with an experienced systems engineer. This is a permanent, full-time position for someone who enjoys getting to the bottom of difficult problems and wants to be the person colleagues turn to once an issue has gone beyond the first point of contact.
Day to day, you will take ownership of escalated faults across the user estate, from laptops, desktops and mobile devices through to business applications, remote access and the underlying network. You will look after accounts, permissions and policies across on-premise and cloud directory services, handle device builds, software rollout and patching through modern endpoint management tools, and help keep the Microsoft cloud environment, including email and collaboration platforms, running smoothly. A key part of the job is spotting patterns in recurring problems and fixing the root cause rather than the symptom.
You will bring solid, hands-on experience in a similar escalation-level support or systems role, with strong knowledge of Windows client environments (exposure to macOS and Linux is helpful), Microsoft 365 and Azure administration, and device management platforms such as Intune. A good grasp of networking, including IP addressing, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, wireless and basic firewall configuration, is important, as is some familiarity with virtualisation. You should be comfortable working to service levels within a structured, ITIL-style support function, keeping clear records and writing documentation others can follow, and liaising with specialist engineers and third-party suppliers when an issue needs to go further. A calm, methodical approach and the ability to explain technical matters in plain language are essential, and you will take part in a shared out-of-hours on-call rota.
