What we hold, and why.
You can read the whole board without an account. This page sets out the few times we do hold something about you, who else sees it, and how to get it back or get rid of it.

Plain English, not legal advice
This is a general summary of how the site handles data, written so you can actually read it. It is not legal advice, and it does not replace your own advice if you need any.

Who we are
IOMJobs is an independent job board for the Isle of Man. We are not part of the Isle of Man Government, a recruitment agency, or any of the employers listed on the site.

What we collect
There are no visitor accounts and no visitor passwords. You can read the entire board without telling us anything. We only hold personal data when you hand it over on one of four forms.
- job alerts — your email address, an optional name, and the sectors, locations, job types, keywords and salary floor you picked. We keep a record of which jobs we have already emailed you so we never send the same advert twice.
- newsletter — your email address and which page you signed up from.
- post a job — the contact name, email and optional phone number you type in, plus the company and advert details. It is stored as a pending submission and read by a person. Nothing is published until it has been through moderation, and a rejected submission never reaches the public board. We keep the form payload as submitted, so a dispute about what was sent can be settled.
- employer reviews — your rating and comments, and optionally your name, email and job role. A review is published only after approval. We store a one-way hash of your IP address, not the address itself, purely to catch spam and repeat submissions.
- server logs — ordinary request logs kept by our hosting and database providers: IP address, timestamp, the page requested, and the browser’s user-agent string. These are operational records for keeping the site up and stopping abuse.

What we don't do
- No advertising trackers, no ad networks, no pixels, no cross-site profiling.
- We do not sell, rent or share email addresses with anyone.
- We do not build a profile of you from the jobs you look at.
- No marketing email beyond the alerts or newsletter you asked for. No unrelated offers, no partner mailings.

Job listings and public sources
Most adverts on the board are gathered from vacancies already advertised in public — for example the Isle of Man Government job search — and the rest are posted directly by employers and agencies. We record what was publicly advertised, and we link back to the original.
Sometimes an advert names a person as the contact for applications. If that is you and you want your name off the site, email [email protected] and we will remove it. The same address works for a listing that is wrong, out of date, or attributed to the wrong employer.

Automated processing and AI
We use large language models to turn advert text into structured data. Advert text and publicly available employer web pages are sent to a third-party model provider (OpenRouter, which routes to the underlying model vendor) for three jobs:
- extraction — reading an advert and deciding the sector, contract type, and whether the advertiser is the employer or an agency acting for a client.
- employer research — finding a company’s website, logo and a short factual description from pages we have fetched.
- salary estimates — most adverts here state no salary at all, so where one is missing we estimate an annual band.
An estimated salary is our guess at the market rate, not the employer’s figure, and it is never presented as theirs. It is flagged as an estimate everywhere it appears. Employer-stated pay and our estimates are held in separate fields and never mixed.
Your personal data is not part of any of this. Alert subscriptions, newsletter sign-ups, job submissions and reviews are never sent to the model provider. Nothing on this site makes an automated decision that has a legal or similarly significant effect on a person.

Where data is held and who processes it
The site runs on a hosted Postgres database and hosted application servers. Beyond that we rely on a small number of processors, listed here by what they do rather than by contract terms we cannot restate for you:
- hosting and database — runs the site and stores the board, alert subscriptions, submissions and reviews.
- email delivery — sends alert digests, newsletters and confirmation emails. It sees the address it is sending to.
- object storage — holds company logos, which we download and re-host rather than hotlink, so your browser never requests a file from a third-party server while you read the board.
- model provider — receives advert text and public employer web pages, as described above, and no visitor data.
Some of these providers operate outside the Isle of Man. Where they do, we rely on the transfer safeguards in their standard terms.

How long we keep it
- alerts and newsletter — until you unsubscribe. An unconfirmed sign-up that is never verified is cleared out.
- job submissions — a published advert stays as long as the listing does. Submissions that were rejected or never completed are cleared periodically.
- reviews — approved reviews stay on the employer’s page. Rejected reviews are cleared periodically.
- scrape history — we keep the raw record of what was publicly advertised, including expired adverts, as an archive of the island’s job market. This is advert content, not personal data about site visitors.
- server logs — kept for a short operational window and then rotated out.

Your rights
Isle of Man data protection law — the Data Protection Act 2018 and the island’s applied GDPR regime — gives you the right to ask for a copy of what we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it erased, to object to how we use it, to receive it in a portable form, and to withdraw consent at any time where consent is what we relied on.
Email [email protected] and we will answer within one month. There is no charge, and you do not need an account to make a request.
If you are not satisfied with how we have handled it, you can complain to the Isle of Man Information Commissioner, who is the supervisory authority for this site.

Unsubscribing
Every alert and every newsletter carries a one-click unsubscribe link. Following it stops the emails immediately. You do not need an account, a password, or to reply and ask.
If a link ever fails, email us and we will remove the address by hand.

Changes to this policy
The date at the top of this page is the date it last changed. If we change something material — a new processor, a new category of data, a new use of it — we will say so on the site rather than quietly editing this page.
