The rules of the board.

What this site is, where the listings come from, what our salary estimates actually mean, and what we ask of you in return. Plain English, no padding.

in plain English

These terms are written as a plain statement of how this site is meant to be used. They are not legal advice, and they don't change any right you have by law. If something here matters to a decision you're making, take proper advice on it.

What this site is

IOM Jobs is a free job board for the Isle of Man. It indexes vacancies that are already being advertised on the island and points you at the advertiser so you can apply.

We are not an employer and not a recruitment agency. We do not hire, we do not screen candidates, we do not handle applications, and we take no fee from anyone looking for work. When you apply for a role you deal with the advertiser directly — IOM Jobs is not a party to your application, your interview, or any contract that follows.

Accepting these terms

Using the site means you accept these terms. If you don't accept them, please don't use the site.

If you post a job, write a review or sign up for alerts you're also agreeing to the specific rules for those things, further down this page. How we handle personal data is covered separately in the privacy policy.

Where listings come from

Adverts reach the board two ways. Most are gathered automatically from sources where they are already publicly advertised — the Isle of Man Government job search is the largest of these. The rest are posted directly by employers and agencies through our post a job form.

What you see here is a copy of what was advertised at the time we read it. Adverts get edited, filled and withdrawn, and our copy can lag behind. Details are also re-typed and summarised in the process, so a title, sector, location or closing date shown here may differ from the original.

The advertiser's own page is always the authority. Check the role, the pay, the terms and the closing date with the advertiser before you apply or make any decision based on a listing.

Estimated salaries

Read this one carefully, because it is the part of the site most easily misread.

The overwhelming majority of adverts on the island state no salary at all. Where an advert gives no figure, the board may show our own estimate instead. Estimates are produced automatically by a language model from the advert's text and typical island rates, are always shown as an annual figure in pounds sterling, and are always labelled as an estimate where they appear.

  • An estimate is our guess at a market rate. It is not the employer's figure and nobody at the advertiser has seen it, let alone agreed to it.
  • It is not an offer, a promise, or any indication of what you would be paid.
  • It can be wrong, and for unusual or senior roles it can be badly wrong.
  • Don't rely on it when deciding whether to apply, and don't quote it in a negotiation.

Where an advert does state a salary, that figure is the employer's and is shown as published. If you can't tell which you're looking at, assume it's an estimate and ask the advertiser.

Employers and advertisers

The organisation that placed an advert is not always the organisation you would work for. A large share of the island's vacancies are posted by recruitment agencies on behalf of a client. Where that is the case we name the agency as the advertiser, and we only name an employer when the advert actually identifies one.

Plenty of agency adverts never name the client — “our client, a leading trust company” and nothing more. We leave the employer undisclosed rather than guessing at it, so a listing with no employer on it is normal, not a fault.

Company and agency profile pages are assembled from public information: the adverts themselves, the organisation's own website and other public sources. They are compiled automatically, so they can be incomplete, out of date, or attached to the wrong business where two organisations share a similar name. Listing an organisation is not an endorsement of it, and there is no commercial relationship implied.

If you're the employer or the agency and want a profile or a listing corrected, updated or removed, email [email protected] and we'll deal with it.

Posting a job

If you submit a vacancy you confirm that it is genuine, currently open, based on or connected to the Isle of Man, and that you are authorised to advertise it. You're responsible for everything in it being accurate and lawful.

You may not post:

  • Misleading pay, hours, duties or location — including a salary band you have no intention of paying.
  • Requirements that discriminate unlawfully.
  • Adverts for a service, a course, a franchise or an investment dressed up as a vacancy.
  • Any role that charges the applicant a fee, or asks for payment or bank details as part of applying.
  • Anything unlawful, or anything you don't hold the rights to publish.

Every submission is held for moderation. Nothing you submit is published automatically. We may edit a submission for formatting and length, ask you for more detail, or reject it without giving a reason, and we can remove a published listing at any time. Submitting a vacancy gives us permission to display it on the site and in related places such as search results and job alert emails.

Reviews

A review must be your own honest, first-hand experience of working for or with the organisation. One account of one experience — not a summary of what you've heard.

Reviews must not:

  • Name or identify individual colleagues, managers or candidates.
  • Contain abuse, harassment or threats.
  • Make defamatory claims, or state as fact something you can't stand behind.
  • Disclose confidential information, or anything covered by an agreement you've signed.
  • Include content you don't have the right to post.

Reviews are published only after they have been approved, and we can decline or remove one at any time. A review is the opinion of the person who wrote it. It is not checked for accuracy and it is not the view of IOM Jobs.

Acceptable use

Please don't:

  • Scrape, bulk-download, mirror or republish the listings database, or any substantial part of it.
  • Attempt to break, overload or circumvent the site, its rate limits or any access control.
  • Harvest names, email addresses or phone numbers from adverts for marketing or recruitment outreach.
  • Misuse the alert, contact or submission forms — including signing up an address that isn't yours, or sending automated or repeated submissions.
  • Use the site for anything unlawful, or in a way that interferes with anyone else's use of it.

We can withdraw access to the site, block a request or remove content where any of this happens.

Intellectual property

The site's design, code, wording and the compilation of listings — the selection, arrangement and categorisation of them — belong to IOM Jobs.

The text of each advert belongs to whoever wrote it. We show it here to do the one thing a job board is for: put a vacancy in front of the people it might suit and send them on to the advertiser. If you hold the rights to an advert and would rather it wasn't here, email [email protected] and we'll take it down.

No warranty, and limits of liability

The site is provided “as is”. We put real effort into keeping it accurate, but we don't guarantee that any listing is accurate, current, complete or genuine, that a vacancy is still open, that a salary figure is right, or that the site will be available or error-free.

To the extent the law allows, we're not liable for any loss arising from using the site or relying on anything on it — including a job that turned out not to exist, an application that went nowhere, a closing date we had wrong, or a salary estimate that was off. Nothing here limits any right you have by law that can't be excluded, and nothing here excludes liability for fraud.

Job adverts are a common cover for fraud. If an advert asks you for money, bank details or identity documents before you have been hired, treat it as suspect and tell us at [email protected].

Changes and availability

We may change these terms. The date at the top of this page says when they last moved, and the version published here is the one that applies. Carrying on using the site after a change means accepting it.

We may also change, suspend or withdraw any part of the site — a feature, a page, or the whole thing — without notice.

Governing law

These terms and any dispute arising from them or from your use of the site are governed by the laws of the Isle of Man, and the courts of the Isle of Man have jurisdiction.

Contact

Anything about these terms: [email protected]. For corrections, removals, privacy requests and everything else, the addresses are on the contact page, and data handling is set out in the privacy policy.
